A pleasure to speak at the Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning in Parliament and hear from people who have sadly been affected by the devastating impact of cancer.
It was great to visit St Helena Hospice today, to meet the dedicated staff and see what has changed since my last visit pre-covid. The garden is looking beautiful and the new flooring makes it even easier for patients to enjoy some fresh air.
I was delighted to visit The Trinity School last week on the day that the DfE appointed builders, Bowmer and Kirkland, handed over the new building to The Alpha Trust. The building looked brilliant and it was a pleasure to have a tour round the school.
First week back in Parliament post recess and two debates to respond to on behalf of HM Government on FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificabs Progressiva) and skills provision for new cell and gene therapies.
Have you ever wondered what Roman Colchester looked like? Now you can see it in incredible detail at the Roman Circus Visitor Centre. This fantastic new exhibit opens from tomorrow and I had a sneak preview this afternoon. A huge amount of work has gone into this scale model!
This afternoon I popped into The Magnet Pub Colchester's first micro pub to discuss the recent changes to simplify the alcohol duty system. We're protecting the price of your pint at the pub and supporting businesses. Local pubs need our support.
It was fantastic to learn about and operate the Versius surgical robot system from CMR Surgical at the Royal Papworth Hospital. They were the first UK hospital to use this robot for thoracic surgery, which can improve outcomes, is less invasive, and speeds up patients' recovery times.
This afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting with the inspirational Naomi Rees-Issitt who founded the OurJay Foundation in memory of her son Jamie alongside her family and Rugby MP Mark Pawsey MP - so far the organisation have installed over 60 publicly accessible defibrillators across Rugby.
