The Mercury Theatre is at the heart of Colchester's vibrant arts and culture scene. It has been undergoing a large revamp, and for a considerable amount of time the Mercury Theatre team have done an exceptional job in holding shows in their grand marquee tent at the Abbey Field. However, although I have thoroughly enjoyed watching shows there, I think I speak for everyone in Colchester when I say I cannot wait to see the new and improved Mercury Theatre when construction is finished.
The Mercury team were kind enough to invite me to attend a tour around the site to see all the progress being made and receive updates on their Mercury Rising capital project. This £9.8 million refurbishment is great news for Colchester and will mean many more people can enjoy our beautiful theatre. Here is what I said in a press release about the exciting visit:
"It was fantastic to see that the development of the new and improved Mercury Theatre building is coming to its final stages. It will be a massive upgrade from the previous building, with new state-of-the-art facilities and much more space for both performers and audiences to enjoy. The Mercury Theatre is at the centre of Colchester’s vibrant arts and culture scene, and a major contributor to our local economy. The opening later this year will herald an exciting new chapter in our theatre’s history."
