The transition from life inside the Armed Forces to life in normal society afterwards is huge, and as an MP proudly representing the garrison town of Colchester, I understand how many armed forces personnel struggle with this transition when it comes. This is why I am working hard in my role as the Minister for Welfare Delivery to ensure we at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provide the strongest possible support to those making this big transition in their lives.
Today I visited the Royal British Legion advice centre in Colchester, where I learned about how the Legion supports our armed forces community. These moments are also advantageous to collect different ideas from individuals outside of the Government, and I got to hear about how they think the DWP can better support people leaving the Armed Forces. Finally, we discussed the DWP's 100 new Armed Forces Champion posts, starting in April and being rolled out to Jobcentres across the country.
