Every year I welcome hundreds of school students to Parliament. The usual format is a coach trip, arriving in London.
I always try to meet visitors from the Colchester to talk about the politics and history of Westminster, the work of an MP and about local issues. The best numbers are 10-30 on each visit; repeated tours from the same school are completely acceptable. Unfortunately, I cannot meet travel costs as I am given no budget for this.
Visits to London can also take in nearby London sights such as Tate Britain, the National Gallery or the London Eye before heading home. There are often free educational exhibitions in Parliament too (details on www.parliament.uk).
I also carry out a programme of school visits throughout Colchester and try to visit a school every Friday morning usually for an assembly. The visits are a good opportunity for students and teachers to raise issues with me, ask questions as well as to show me their school work and projects.
Tours with official tour guides from the House of Commons need to be booked months in advance although for smaller groups, I can conduct a tour myself at shorter notice.
Please contact me to enquire about a visit to Westminster, or if you would like me to visit your school.
