Colchester Hospital Investment

When I was standing to be the Member of Parliament for Colchester, I made clear that I sought to be a critical friend to the Trust at our hospital. I also made it clear that I would work with them to champion our success stories and the care which patients across North Essex receive, while holding them to account and being straight with them where things aren’t working.

My postbag often has correspondence from local residents praising the care which they have received whilst being treated at Colchester General Hospital. In particular, they have nothing but the highest regard for the care and dedication of the staff at our Hospital.

I have been impressed with the fantastic improvements that our hospital has seen in recent years under the leadership of the Chief Executive of the Ipswich and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Nick Hulme.

Colchester General Hospital has always been close to my heart and I have long campaigned for and championed our hospital. I was excited to hear about the £35 million Government investment in the hospital which I helped to secure. This is the biggest investment in our hospital in decades. It has provided our hospital with an exciting new restructure, which includes a new modern welcome entrance. The entrance will now include an M&S food store, amongst other new shops. The restructure also includes a re-design and configuration of the A&E and a new Urgent Care Centre.

I also helped the Chief Executive of our hospital's Trust to lobby for Colchester General Hospital to be the chosen location for the new £30m centre for orthopaedic operations. It was the obvious choice, and I was delighted when it was confirmed that the new centre will be located at our Colchester Hospital site.

I will continue standing up for our cherished and valued Colchester General Hospital and continue to work with our hospital to secure the resources necessary to improve services and deliver the care which local residents deserve.
